Common questions
- The app asks for my location. Why?
- Location finds the plants near you and the utilities serving your county. It stays on your phone. It is sent to our server only when you collect a plant, to confirm you were within range at that moment.
- A number looks wrong.
- Every card names the EIA form and year it draws on. The figures are what the plant or utility reported; we do the arithmetic and nothing more. If you believe we have mis-read a filing, email us the plant or utility name and the figure and we will check it against the source.
- How current is the data?
- EIA publishes each year's filings about nine to twelve months after the year ends, so the newest figures are usually for the previous calendar year.
- Can I use the app without signing in?
- Yes. The map, nearby plants, utilities and the State tab work without an account. Sign in with Apple is needed only to collect plants and join the leaderboard.
- What does Emphasis Pro include?
- Unlimited plant and utility details, unlimited county lookups, unlimited collecting, the leaderboard, lifetime stats, and the driving session with its Live Activity. Browsing the map, the nearby list and the State tab is free for everyone, along with a weekly allowance of details, lookups and collects.
- How do I cancel Emphasis Pro?
- Pro is billed by Apple. Open Settings ▸ your name ▸ Subscriptions on your iPhone, or Profile ▸ Manage in the app. Cancelling keeps Pro until the end of the paid year.
- I bought Pro but the app still shows the free tier.
- Open Profile and tap Restore purchases. If it still fails, email us with the date of purchase.
- How do I delete my account?
- Profile ▸ Delete account removes your profile, collected plants, favorites and leaderboard entry from our servers immediately. Your Apple subscription is separate and unaffected; cancel it through Apple as above.
- Does the driving session work with the screen off?
- Yes. Once a session is running, alerts and spoken readouts continue in the background and a Live Activity stays on the Lock Screen. End the session from the Live Activity or the app when you arrive.
