What you can do

Public federal data, read straight from the source.

Everything in the app comes from forms that power plants and utilities are required to file with the U.S. government each year. We do not survey, estimate, or model anything ourselves. We organize what they report and do the arithmetic.

Solar, nuclear, gas, hydro, wind, and six more fuel types, each with its own marker. Tap one to see its capacity, how hard it actually runs, and three years of monthly generation. Retired plants stay on the map in gray, and planned plants show what is coming.

Get within 10 kilometers of an operating plant and add its megawatts to your collection. Fill a sticker book of fuel types, watch your own fuel mix take shape, and, if you like, compare your total on a global or state leaderboard under a handle you choose.

What do you pay for power?

The Utilities tab lists every utility serving the county you are in, or any county you look up. See customers, sales, and your utility's average rate against the state and the U.S., with history back to the 1990s, and where it ranks among its peers.

Start a session before a road trip and the app announces plants as they come within range, collects them for you, reads out the county you have entered, and keeps a Live Activity on the Lock Screen. Hands stay on the wheel.

About the data

Numbers you can trace to a filing.

Plant data comes from EIA Forms 860 and 923. Utility data comes from EIA Form 861. County boundaries and populations come from the U.S. Census Bureau. Every card names the form and year it draws on.

EIA publishes each year's filings about nine to twelve months after the year ends, so the newest figures are usually for the previous calendar year. If a number looks wrong, email us the plant or utility and we will check it against the source.

The app has no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking. Your location stays on your phone and is sent to our server only at the moment you collect a plant, to confirm you were in range. Emphasis Energy is not affiliated with the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
